On this day 50 years ago, the SS Great Britain came home to its final resting place in Bristol’s dry docks.
25 years ago, I visited the ship for the very first time. The home movie below shows some of that day.
I still remember it well; being amazed by the cramp living quarters and imagining everyone in tight spaces. Former grand rooms in disrepair and decay, hinting at an opulent past. Who might have dined there and where did they travel? So many hidden stories. So many achievements, so many dreams and struggles.
The ship has changed so much since then and I still enjoy visiting today. It’s an inspiring place to be.
Many of the fantastic artists I work with have been inspired by the SS Great Britain and you can see what they have created just here.
As ever, there’s much more in-store!
